BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Charlie Woods shot a 12-over 82 on Monday in the U.S. Junior Amateur at Oakland Hills. The 15-year-old son of Tiger Woods birdied both of the par 5s on the Oakland Hills North Course and struggled on the par 3s and 4s, carding five double bogeys and four bogeys. Woods will have to have quite a turnaround Tuesday on a course known as The Monster to be among the low 64 scorers from a field that started with 264 players from 40 states and 35 countries. Jerry Miller, Moby Grape founding guitarist, has died
Jerry Miller, guitarist and founding member of ’60s San Francisco scene psych-rock greats Moby Grape, died on Sunday at age 81. No cause of death was given. Born July 10, 1943 in Tacoma, Miller began playing guitar in local groups by the late-’50s, was friends with Jimi Hendrix, and played on an early version of Bobby Fuller’s classic “I Fought the Law.” He formed The Frantics with drummer Don Stevenson and, after meeting Jerry Garcia, relocated the band to San Francisco. It was there Miller and Stevenson met bassist Bob Mosley, and with the addition of former Jefferson Airplane member Skip Spence and Peter Lewis — making this a three-guitarist group — Moby Grape were born.

Former St. Vincent de Paul College Prep Teacher Finally Gets His Last Payday
A former St. Vincent de Paul College Prep teacher who sued for his last month’s wages has been paid. Kenneth Blake tells the Petaluma Argus-Courier that he received his final payment last Monday from the Diocese of Santa Rosa. The former government and psychology teacher said it shouldn’t have come to a lawsuit, but was also, quote, “glad in the end they did the right thing.” The Diocese of Santa Rosa relinquished control of the school to an independent board. However, they refused to issue payment to Blake and other outgoing faculty members for their last month of work at the school, causing Blake to sue. At least three other teachers have since been paid their final wages.

Lakeside wins first two games at state tournament
The Lakeside 9-10-year-old Little League All-Stars have won their first two games at the state tournament in Larkspur. And quite amazingly, the team has done it with four players missing from the team, including Hudson Peters and Austin and Kyle Henning, who normally account for the top three hitters in their lineup. Also missing was Colin Pipal. The boys were away on unavoidable conflicts, but all four will be back for the team’s next game on Tuesday.

San Francisco officers killed an armed male in an encounter Sunday night in the city. Police said that around 11:55 p.m., they responded to the area of Willow Street and Van Ness Avenue to investigate an armed robbery that occurred at McAllister Street.
