MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Most of us are now in the middle of summer vacation, and your kids may be in summer camp or playing at the pool or the beach.

But what about those days when they’re stuck at the house?

Educators say summer reading is extremely important and will help students not fall far behind while they’re out of school.

Award-winning children’s book author, Portia Clare, of Bennettsville, joined News13 First Edition to talk about the importance of summer reading for kids.

Clare is the author of three new children’s books, “Life is more than this Covington pond,” “My name is my daddy,” and “Best friends forever: A puppy’s tale.”
