Enhanced Box Score: Phillies 6, Cubs 4 – July 2, 2024
Sure, the Cubs strung together a couple of hits before a late-game, three-run Seiya Suzuki blast, but it was just a classic fake rally before an otherwise inevitable loss. Indeed, even including the ninth inning tonight, the Cubs went down 1-2-3 in order SIX times in nine innings. That is just some incredible sleep-walking-through-the-season nonsense. And it wasn’t like they were facing Zack Wheeler (he’s tomorrow …). They let a 25-year-old rookie making his first big league start hold them to 1 run on 2 hits over 5.0 innings at Wrigley Field. It’s just bad. The team doesn’t work.
