Exploration Place sets new attendance record
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Exploration Place reported a record-breaking 13% increase in visitors for the 2023-24 fiscal year, with 409,975 people visiting the Sedgwick County Science and Discovery Center. This surpassed the previous record of 363,047 visitors in 2022-23. The museum also saw a 17% rise in family memberships, totaling 10,753 households. Another milestone includes over 100,000 visitors to the Digital Dome Theater for the first time in its history. Additionally, the museum provided 26,309 free admissions through programs such as Museums for All, Title I school field trips, free library passes, and the Blue Star Families initiative.

The Salina City Commission held a public hearing at its regular meeting yesterday, July 23 to decide whether to list the Ambassador Hotel as a dangerous structure. The seemingly abandoned 192-room hotel, located at 1616 W. Crawford Street in Salina, has been owned by various chains since it opened in the 1980s under its first name, "The Holiday Inn Holidome." Two Arrested for Narcotics Near Riverton
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office arrests two men on narcotics charges. Deputies served a narcotics-related search warrant on a Riverton home Monday, July 22, 2024. Arrested at the scene were 33-year-old Matthew Haynes and 41-year-old Brandon Lewis. During the course of the search, deputies found narcotics along with drug paraphernalia consistent with distribution. Both men were transported to the Cherokee County Jail in Columbus.
