Crews Begin Restoration Work in Bay City’s Carroll Park
Bay City work crews are doing restoration work in Carroll Park, near Essexville. According to the city, the park spans nearly 14 acres in the area of Groveland Road and Park Avenue, and is the oldest platted park in the city, established in 1875. The pond at the park had mostly dried up over the summer due to an issue with an old water supply line. Crews with the city Department of Public Works began phase two or restoring the pond yesterday, which also includes replacing the water line and painting the animal sculptures which reside in the pond. Officials say the playground may also need to be replaced as well, due to safety concerns, but funding should become available if needed. While an exact date for when the work on the pond will be complete hasn’t been provided, the department says it will be soon.

SVSU hires fundraising leader as new vice president for development
Saginaw Valley State University has announced that Brian Brunner will join the university as its inaugural vice president for development, following a national search. Brunner comes to SVSU from Lindenwood University in Missouri, where he has served as the assistant vice president for advancement for the past four years. He is familiar with Michigan’s Great Lakes Bay Region, having graduated from Central Michigan University and working there for eight years across two terms of employment.

Bay City Releases Information on Investigation into Former Events Coordinator
The City of Bay City is speaking up about an investigation into a former employee. Mike Bacigalupo’s time as the city’s Special Event Coordinator was terminated November 1st of last year. According to a statement released by the City, in 2019 The State Theatre, where Bacigalupo served as executive director, approached the City about improvements to Wenonah Park. Later, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) announced a possible $900 thousand grant for the project, though funds were never issued, according to the statement. When City staff contacted MEDC, it was allegedly discovered that the grant’s recipient name had been changed from the City of Bay City to the State Theatre.
