(KNSI) – House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, whose Congressional district includes St. Cloud, Benton County, and Sherburne County, is optimistic about the GOP’s chances in this year’s federal election.Emmer said experts already had Republicans pegged for a potential win in the presidential race and to secure a majority in the U.S. Senate. He told KNSI Radio Monday at the RNC he expects the GOP to have a triumvirate of their own in D.C. in November.

(KNSI) — Authorities say the technical issue plaguing the Benton County Sheriff’s Department and Sauk Rapids nonemergency phone lines Thursday has been fixed. Callers heard a series of dial tones and clicks which sounded like the call didn’t go through. The call did connect, but the two sides couldn’t communicate due until several seconds into the call.

Benton County Sheriff’s Office experiences phone troubles
The Benton County Sheriff’s Office is experiencing technical difficulties with our administrative telephone lines. The Benton County Sheriff’s Office is in the process of an upgrading the telephone handling equipment in our public safety answering point (PSAP). The upgrade is currently causing technical issues within our PSAP. Callers attempting to contact the Benton County Sheriff’s Office administrative line (320-968-7201) or Sauk Rapids Police Department administrative line (320-251-9451) are experiencing what sounds line a disconnect when the call is answered. Callers dialing these numbers will hear the ring tones and a click or series of clicks that sound like a disconnecting call. This is followed by 1 to 5 seconds of silence before our PSAP staff are able to talk to the caller. Callers are asked to hold on the line after the disconnect sounds and through the silence to complete their call and reach our PSAP staff.
Injured man airlifted from shooting range
On June 8, 2024, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of an injury resulting from recreational firearms use. On June 8 at about 9:30 p.m., witnesses called the Benton County Sheriff’s Office to report a bystander had been injured while another person was shooting a rifle. The witnesses reported the injured person was located in a field in the 8000 block of 170th Ave. NE in Maywood Township and had a substantial injury to his abdomen.
