The Benton County Sheriff’s Office says it located her body Wednesday morning in the Willamette River between Corvallis and Albany after canoers saw it and called 911. Pomeroy died Saturday evening after the group she was inner tubing with got caught on an exposed snag in the water. She helped put Portland, Oregon, on the map as a culinary destination. She received a coveted James Beard award in 2014 and was also known for her appearance on cooking shows, including Top Chef Masters.

She was 49 years old. Pomeroy drowned Saturday evening in the Willamette River near Corvallis after the group she was tubing with got caught on an exposed snag in the water, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. Pomeroy was pulled under the water and trapped by a paddle board leash attached to her, Captain Chris Duffitt said. The group had tied their inner tubes and paddle board together. Authorities said they safely recovered the other two people on the shore and transported them to a boat launch. The sheriff’s office said it is still working to recover Pomeroy’s body. It searched the area using sonar, underwater cameras and drones but was unable to find it due to heavy debris.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office continues to search for the body of a 49-year-old Portland woman who drowned Saturday in the Willamette River. Naomi Pomeroy had been floating the river with two others on tubes and a paddle board that were secured together. In a spot on the Willamette River in Corvallis, about 100 yards upstream from the Marys River, the group got caught on an exposed snag in the water. Pomeroy was pulled under the water and held by the paddle board leash, the BCSO investigation determined.
