On an episode of the Joe Rogan Podcast, venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya expressed his concerns about the current education system and its potential impact on future innovators.

What Happened : Palihapitiya, the founder of Social Capital , criticized the San Francisco Board of Education’s decision to eliminate several AP math classes during his conversation with Rogan.

He argued that such challenging courses are crucial for nurturing the next generation of innovators like Steve Jobs or Elon Musk .

“In eight billion people in the world, what are the odds that there’s only literally one Steve Jobs or literally only one Elon Musk meaning capable of that kind of execution,” he questioned, highlighting the need to provide opportunities for potential innovators to flourish.

Palihapitiya also stressed the importance of recognizing and nurturing individual strengths within educational systems. He suggested that advanced classes could inspire students and help build their self-confidence.

As AI continues to advance, Palihapitiya believes the education system needs to shift its focus from rote learning to developing critical thinking and judgment skills.

He sees teachers playing a crucial role in this transition, teaching students how to think, interpret information, and make judgments.

Palihapitiya also addressed subjects including immigration and the media's portrayal of former President Donald Trump .

On immigration, he said, “I think that Donald Trump has had a clearer view of this issue for much far longer. I think that Kamala has had to shift her position.”

Regarding the media’s portrayal of Trump , the SPAC king said, “I met him and spent time with him,” adding, “I think the media really gets tilted.”

His remarks about Trump were also noted by Musk, the CEO of Tesla Inc. and SpaceX .
