IRVINE, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A Berea teen has died after what the Kentucky State Police (KSP) have called an accidental shooting in Estill County on Friday.

KSP Post 7 in Richmond was called just before 1:30 p.m. Friday by the Estill County Sheriff’s Office and asked to assist with a shooting investigation in the area of Clark Road in Estill County, per law enforcement.

When troopers arrived, KSP said 14-year-old Jett Ballard of Berea had been shot by a 13-year-old boy outside of a home. Attempts by first responders to save Ballard were unsuccessful, and Estill County Coroner Jimmy Wise pronounced him dead at the scene.

The Kentucky Middle School Football Association said teams and families from the community held a prayer circle on Saturday at Farristown Middle School in Berea to honor Ballard’s memory.
