Ohio Turnpike warns drivers of text scams

BEREA, Ohio (WJW) – Ohio Turnpike customers are being warned of scammers trying to request payment for unpaid tolls.

According to a press release from the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission , there has been a resurgence of texts from scammers requesting payment for unpaid tolls through fraudulent websites.

According to the release , the turnpike does not request E-ZPass customers to make a payment or collect unpaid tolls and toll violations by text.

Ohio Turnpike’s E-ZPass accounts are only associated with the official Ohio Turnpike websites including ezpassoh.com and ohioturnpike.org.

“We encourage all customers to stay alert to these “smishing” and “phishing” scams by text and email, respectively,” the release said.
