Canton Dealing With Sewage in Basements
(Canton, SD) — A neighborhood in Canton is dealing with flooded basements caused by sewage backups. One resident on Pleasant Street tells KELO her basement filled with 18 inches of sewage and she had to temporarily shut down her at-home daycare business. Others complain of dizziness and nausea from the sewer gas. Many say the problem has been going on for years. Canton Mayor Sandi Lundstrom there’s a five-million-dollar project underway to replace some of the old pipes, but some residents say the sewage problem needs to take priority over other projects in the city.
