Pierre Little League Hosts Sub-District Saturday to Qualify for State
Saturday, the Pierre Little League will be trying to punch their ticket back to the state tournament with the Sub-District 1 tournament held at Griffin Park. Pierre will be the host team again for the Sub-District with the state tournament again held in Rapid City this year. It will be a three game round robin tournament with the top two teams of Pierre, Sioux Falls and Huron advancing to the state tournament. This is the first step to making it to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania which is the marquee World Series for Little League shown on ESPN. The Little League roster for 2024 is John Boes, Chisum Brakke, Jett Brakke, Carter Dokken, Griffin Freeman, Kane Hand, Henry Janes, Kingston Massa, Jax Newcomer, Aksel Nordvold and Connor Peschong. Pierre will need to win one game to at least have a chance at making the state tournament and will know what needs to be done to advance when the final game begins for the day.

Lil’ Govs Fun Run Begins Next Tuesday
Starting this coming Tuesday, July 9, Pierre Cross Country coach Jim Keyes and the cross country team will be host the Lil’ Govs Summer Cross Country Fun Run. It will happen over the next four weeks, every Tuesday in July starting at 5:30 which will be down at the Griffin Park Tennis courts. The athletes will run on the bike path along the river and then turn and run back through the middle of the park. There will signage for kids to run a half mile, mile or two miles with the kids deciding how far they want to run. The goal of the runs is to grow the sport of cross country and have fun while doing it. It is for kids aged kindergarten through fifth grade.
Walks and errors haunt Madison Post 25 in loss to Mt. Vernon
In Legion baseball, Madison Post 25 allowed just 3 hits, but they walked 7 and committed 3 errors, in an 11-6 loss to Mt. Vernon-Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney on Tuesday night. Mt. Vernon scored 7 runs in the 3rd inning. The big hit was a 2 RBI single from Daniel Laufamn. They also scored runs in the inning on a walk, a wild pitch, a hit batter, and an error.
Broncos, Mudcats, PBR and The Gang all winners on Tuesday night
– The Dell Rapids Mudcats are still undefeated, after an 8-3 win on the road in Salem Tuesday. Mark Abrahamson hit a solo home run in the 3rd, and a 2 run homer in the 5th to power the Mudcats offense. Dells also took advantage of 8 walks from Salem pitchers. Carter Gullickson and Josh Roemen each had 2 hits for Dell Rapids. Kris Regas picked up the win. He allowed just 1 unearned run over 7 innings, and struck out 17 Cubs batters.
East Hangs on for Doubleheader Sweep of Eights
Sioux Falls East would get two wins on Tuesday sweeping Pierre Post 8 at Hyde Stadium with a 5-1 and 5-4 wins for their tenth straight South Dakota win. East would get a two RBI double from Kooper Perry in the top of the second to take a 2-0 lead and added on in the third with a RBI single from Ryan Hirsch. The Eights would get its lone RBI from George Stalley, a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth, but an extra two insurance runs would score in the seventh delivered by Ethan Olson. Pierre had just three hits in the game and had just two base runners in the first four innings. Miles Doyle would be tagged with the loss giving three runs, two earned, on seven hits, three walks and four strikeouts in five and 2/3 innings.
Vining Has a Monster Day, Smittys Split with SF Post 15 West
ABERDEEN, SD- Casey Vining hit a three-run homer, and picked up a win on the hill as the Aberdeen Smittys push past Post 15 West 16-3 in game one of the double dip. Vining hit a towering home run over the left field wall in the first inning to set the tone. He finished 1-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored in game one.

For the second year in a row Dusty and Brooke Formanek are running the fireworks stand for the community members near and far. "The company that we use is Borderline Fireworks out of New Mexico," said Brooke. Borderline Fireworks also services and supplies three other stands in South Dakota; Ft. Pierre, Sturgis, and Whitewood. They acquired the four-stand territory over the winter from the New Underwood based company who had been supplying Philip with fireworks for about 20 years.

{KXLG – Watertown, SD} The City of Watertown Mosquito Control Program will be spraying for adult mosquitos tonight, July 3rd, 2024, after 9:00 pm. The spraying targets areas with a high mosquito population, including southeast Watertown (south of 3rd Avenue North and east of Broadway) and southwest Watertown (south of 3rd Avenue North and west of Broadway).

KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - The American Automobile Experience has received six classic cars from Metallica’s front man. James Hetfield, singer and songwriter for heavy metal band Metallica, is loaning his private six car collection to the car museum in Kearney. His classic cars came from the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. Blueprint Engines and local Kearney donors reached out to the Los Angeles car museum and struck a deal to have Hetfield’s cars on loan for a year.
