Was there ever a design movement better suited for cocktail parties than mid-century modern? It combined form and function in a really sleek yet colorful way that made living spaces feel both welcoming and sophisticated. Just look at any nice, authentic mid-century modern living room - spaces like those just scream to be filled with the sounds of jazz records and clinking highball glasses. Modern, minimalist aesthetics just don't have that "party" vibe to them!

If you want a perfect example of mid-century modern "cocktail party" vibes, look no further than this retro-chic 1960s home currently up for sale in Berkeley, California. Hopefully this home's future owner loves entertaining guests, because this super-stylish house is a party host's paradise!

Bay Area realtor @rolandosage got to tour this MCM beauty of a home designed in 1962 by its original owner, architect Reece Clark. Honestly, with the views this place has, the house itself could be a shack and it'd still be stunning. However, the home is clearly a hand-crafted labor of love by its owner, and it shows in every mod, stylish detail.

    The Ultimate Entertainment Space

The moment Roland stepped through the front door, I could easily visualize all the swanky parties this place used to have. The open kitchen and big, spacious living room lead out to a big balcony with unbelieveable views stretching out for miles. You can just see guests leaning against the balcony railing on a warm summer evening, cocktail glasses in hand, lost in conversation.

There are some obvious modern additions (Roland acknowledged that there would have been "way too much cooking and cocktails being consumed" to have that carpet in there originally), but all the aesthetically important parts- the wood paneling , the warm colors, the sleek, angular design - remain the same. I mean, just look at that fireplace - many a fondue party was definitely had in front of that thing.

    Living in Vintage Luxury

The living area is obviously this home's centerpiece, but every other room shines in its own right. The two bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms are equipped with massive windows looking out over the same incredible scenery as the back balcony, filling them with natural light. The second bathroom isn't quite as lavish as the tropical-wallpapered en-suite bathroom, but it still has little touches of MCM "funkiness" in its detailed tiling. The whole home is obviously a product of its time stylistically, but it doesn't feel dated at all. Its vintage luxury fits really well with a more "modern" vibe.

This home deserves to be bought by someone who will put its entertainment potential to good use and fill it with laughter and life again. As Roland remarked, this Berkeley home is listed for $1.45 million by realtor Alexandria Pembleton - you can check out its Zillow listing here . Located just one block from the Claremont Canyon Stonewall Trail, it's just as ideal for outdoor lovers as it is for elegant entertainers. All this place needs is the right new owner to really bring it to life... could that person be you? If you can afford its hefty asking price, you might just have a shot!
