According to a recently submitted permit application, a new restaurant listed as Itani Sushi is gearing up to debut in Berkeley.

Coming to 1511 Shattuck Avenue , Suite D , the eatery will land near establishments such as Cafenated Coffee Company, Cheese Board Collective Pizzeria, and Saul’s Restaurant & Delicatessen.

What Now San Francisco reached out to the concept’s owner, Kyle Takeshi — who is also the founder of Yonsei Handrolls and Hopscotch Takeout — to inquire about the expansion, but he could not provide additional information before publication.

For readers who are unfamiliar with Takeshi’s existing spots, Yonsei Handrolls is known for its “open-faced Japanese sushi handrolls made of crisp nori, seasoned sushi rice, and top-notch fish” — and Hopscotch, his first restaurant, is “a classic American diner with a Japanese twist.”

An opening date has not been announced yet, so stay tuned for updates.
