Three former Low Country Deputies charged with misconduct

Three now former Low Country Deputies are facing charges of misconduct in office. WCIV TV in Charleston is reporting that a trio of former detention deputies from the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office have been arrested by SLED.

23 year old Avery Richard Smith, 43 year old Christopher Dozier III and 45 year old, Frankie Levar Snider are all charged with misconduct in office. Smith has also been charged with 1st degree criminal sexual conduct and 8 counts of assault and battery.

Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis said once the allegations surfaced, he immediately removed everyone involved and called SLED to investigate. Smith had been with the Sheriff's Office since 2022, Dozier and Snider had both been there well over 7 years.
