Man arrested after breaking into West Virginia animal center to let dogs loose

INWOOD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man has been arrested after breaking into a West Virginia animal center to let dogs out of their kennels.

According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department, in the early hours of Friday, July 5, 2024, a burglary was reported at the Inwood Animal Center, located at 7611 Winchester Avenue.

At 3:56 AM, Deputies Clark and Snapp responded to the call, which described the suspect as an African American male with dreadlocks.

Upon arrival, the deputies observed lights on inside the building and a man matching the suspect’s description.

The suspect was seen opening dog kennels and releasing the animals.

Deputies Snapp and Corporal Simerly of the West Virginia State Police were able to apprehend the suspect as he attempted to open an exterior door.

Deputy Clark identified the suspect as Thomas Renzy, 27, of Martinsburg.

Renzy exhibited signs of intoxication, with a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.

He was taken into custody and charged with breaking and entering.

Following his arrest, Renzy was arraigned by a Berkeley County Magistrate and released on a $30,000 bond.
