Boy, 7, shot on Dan Ryan Expressway in Park Manor, ISP says
A child is recovering at the hospital after being shot on the Dan Ryan Expressway, according to Illinois State Police.ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watchThe shooting happened in the northbound lanes of I-94 at 73rd Street around 2:40 a.m.An unknown person was shooting from a car on the expressway when a bullet struck a 7-year-old boy.The boy was a passenger, the driver pulled over at 22nd and Michigan to call for help, ISP said.The boy to a local hospital by firefighters. At last check he was in serious condition, according to the Chicago Fire Department.Northbound lanes of the Dan Ryan at 71st Street were closed during the investigation. Police release new surveillance photo of missing elderly Skokie woman
CHICAGO (CBS) — Skokie Police have released a new surveillance photo of a missing elderly woman from Skokie, Illinois. Tsering Wangyal has been missing since Monday. The 82-year-old was last seen at her condo building on Bronx Place. On Saturday night, police released the new surveillance image from that very same day. It was taken just after 6 p.m. Monday at the Levy Senior Center in Evanston. The family said she was heading to a prayer meeting. They also say she has no driver's license and left without her money or phone. Police say teams brought out bloodhounds, but last week's heavy rain may have washed away her scent.

CHICAGO (CBS) — Activists Saturday demanded the Chicago Police Department reopen its investigation into officers with ties to known extremist groups. "We are the people, and we are the ones who employ the police," said Grace Patino with the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression. We pay for their salaries. We pay for their overtime. And we pay for the misconduct cases. We have a right and a responsibility to stand up and say that Oath Keeper cops aren't welcome here." An internal affairs investigation found eight officers with connections to right-wing extremist groups like the Oath Keepers.However, according to Inspector General Deborah Witzburg, investigators only interviewed those officers themselves. They did not take additional steps or document whether their association with the group discredited their department.

Durbin requests federal help for students hurt by recent college closings
Illinois U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin is asking the federal government to help students left in the lurch by the abrupt closings of two Chicago-area colleges this month. In a letter Friday to the U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, Durbin asked that the feds “take immediate action to assist students” of Northwestern College and the American Academy of Art College. Both schools closed in early July, citing financial struggles.
Illinois Pair Arrested After High-Speed Chase on I-94 in LaPorte County
LaPorte County, IN – A reported high-speed chase on Friday evening led to the arrest of two individuals from Illinois. According to Indiana State Police, the pursuit began around 7:15 p.m. when a trooper reportedly attempted to stop a black Jeep traveling at 71 mph in a 45 mph zone on U.S. 20 near C.R. 400 E. The driver, identified as Roberto Valencuela, 19, of Matteson, IL, allegedly fled west on U.S. 20 and onto I-94, prompting a multi-agency response. The chase continued through LaPorte and Porter Counties, with officers deploying stop sticks multiple times along I-94.
