Mechanics Hall’s Kathy Gagne Highlights Exciting Summer Events
Mechanics Hall Executive Director Kathy Gagne runs down upcoming events at the hall. One of the things Hank and Kathy discuss is how this world renowned hall, right here in Worcester, helps bring the community together through events like the recent Salsa Social or game nights. Among the can’t miss events this summer are two free organ concerts at Mechanics Hall that showcase a new generation of virtuoso musicians. On Wednesday, July 31, Alexander Richard Straus-Fausto, known for his imaginative outlook, innovative programming, and colorful style, will perform from his broad repertoire of music. On Wednesday, August 21, Cecily DeMarco, a graduate of The Juilliard School and an American Guild of Organists’ “Rising Star,” will play a wide-ranging selection of organ compositions. Free and open to the public, the concerts begin at 12 noon; doors open at 11:30 a.m. Cabaret-style seating in the Great Hall is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees are invited to bring their own lunch, and refreshments will also be available for purchase.

Stop & Shop officials have agreed to meet with a Worcester city leader to discuss the closure of its store in a neighborhood city advocates say it’s desperately needed in. A spokesperson from Stop & Shop told MassLive Friday it will meet with City Manager Eric Batista before the end of the month.

Woelmer Named Strength Coach for Women’s Basketball, Lacrosse
KINGSTON, R.I. – Jamie Woelmer has joined the Rhode Island Athletics Strength and Conditioning staff. In her position, Woelmer will work directly with women's basketball and women's lacrosse. Woelmer comes to Rhode Island after spending five years working at the College of the Holy Cross. I am excited to introduce the Library’s new social worker, Taylor Morris, who is planning the next iteration of our social work program to connect patrons with social service resources. In 2021, Library staff, elected officials, and community members identified a lack of equitable access to social work services among patrons, so with support from the City, we established our in-house social work program in response to these needs. Library staff are well equipped to help patrons find resources, but we needed someone who could walk patrons through employing these resources for themselves and navigating the complex barriers that come with social services.

Police investigating serious crash involving pedestrian in Bedford
Police are investigating a serious crash involving a pedestrian in Bedford on Saturday. Bedford Police Chief John Fisher says the pedestrian crash happened around 4:00 p.m. on Concord Road. Concord Road was closed for around two and a half hours before reopening around 6:30 p.m. There was no immediate word on the condition of the pedestrian.

A group of people gathered in downtown Stoughton, Massachusetts, on Saturday, demanding justice for Sandra Birchmore. Birchmore was three months pregnant when she was found dead in her Canton apartment in 2021. Her death was ruled a suicide at the time.
