Catholic Byzantine Mass set July 28, Aug. 25
The Rev. Volodymyr Klanichka, pastor of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Wilmington, will once again come to Lewes to celebrate the divine liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, the Catholic Byzantine rite Eucharistic liturgy, at 4 p.m., Sunday, July 28, and Sunday, Aug. 25, at St. Jude the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, off northbound Route 1 just past the Five Points intersection.
Milton majors force winner-take-all game against Lewes
The Milton majors all-star team forced a winner-take-all game for the District 3 title after completing a come-from-behind 6-5 win over Lewes July 18. Since falling to Lewes 6-1 July 11 in the opening round, Milton has reeled off five straight wins against Millsboro, Lower Sussex, Nanticoke, Georgetown and now Lewes.
Athletes of the Week July 19
A rising freshman at Cape Henlopen High School, this honor roll student led the Lewes Yacht Club/Sussex Family YMCA swim team to a 485-127 victory over the Rehoboth Beach Country Club squad this week. Jack earned wins in the 100 individual medley and the 50 backstroke. He also swam to second for the 50 free in a blazing 25 seconds. Jack was a state finalist this winter season as an eighth-grader at Sussex Academy in the grueling 500 freestyle. He also swims for Sussex Family YMCA during the winter season, when he was a district champion in the 200 fly. Last summer, he was the summer league champ in the 50 back. "Jack is primed to have another great Delmarva Swim Association summer championships meet next week," said coach Mike Vansant. "He's a great swimmer and a great kid."
Now the State Champs: Hanover Township 12U Girls Softball Majors Will Face Maryland on Sunday
HANOVER TOWNSHIP, NJ - The Hanover Township 12U Girls Softball Majors Allstar team is now officially the New Jersey State Champions! They are headed to represent New Jersey in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament in Bristol, Connecticut this weekend.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE FREE TAPINTO.NET NEWSLETTER Because it was a double elimination tournament, Toms River needed to beat Hanover Township twice, which they did not do. On Tuesday evening, the girls' team lost to Toms River 7 - 0 but went on to beat them on Wednesday night 6 - 4 which secured their title as State Champions. Delaware State Police Arrest Lewes Man for Multiple Felony Thefts
A 31-year-old Lewes man has been arrested for felony thefts from vehicles over the last week in the Lewes area. The investigation into multiple thefts and trespassing of a similar nature in the Angola and Lewes area took place between July 8th and 17th. Police say in each of the incidents the suspect trespassed onto residential properties, where he went through unsecured vehicles and stole money and property. William Rodenbaugh was arrested yesterday, July 17th–after a brief foot chase. He faces numerous charges and is now at Sussex Correctional Institution on a $1,500 secured bond.

The Berlin Planning Commission heard concept plans, once again, for the proposed Microtel Inn and Suites by Wyndham on Wednesday, July 10, when the group showed dissatisfaction with the developer’s apparent lack of attention to Berlin’s historic character in the outlined architecture. DSP Troopers Arrest Maryland Man for Felony Shoplifting
Delaware State Police arrested a Bishopville, Maryland man for felony shoplifting at Harris Teeter on Americana Parkway in Selbyville. According to Delaware State Police, yesterday afternoon when troopers arrived, they were told that someone an unknown person had stolen over $5,000 of consumable merchandise from the store since June. The investigation led troopers to the identification of 37-year-old Glenn Haught. Later in the day, troopers responded back to Harris Teeter when Haught returned and was being detained by asset protection. Haught was arrested and taken to Troop 4, charged with Shoplifting Over $1,500 (Felony), arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2, and released on a $2,000 unsecured bond.

BALTIMORE -- The Maryland Judiciary closed all courts to the public Friday, except for emergencies, due to a Microsoft outage that has crippled systems worldwide. Hospitals are also among the systems impacted. The issue was caused by a technical problem that global cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike said it had identified in its software and was working to resolve, CBS News reports. CrowdStrike provides antivirus software to Microsoft for its Windows devices."The underlying cause has been fixed, however, residual impact is continuing to affect some Microsoft 365 apps and services.
