Water barrel fights, music, auction and good food highlight Fireman's Festival in Berlin

BERLIN − An evening of live music, firefighter water barrel fights, a fundraising auction and fireworks were on the agenda at the annual East Holmes Fireman's Festival held Saturday at Berlin Elementary School.

Hundreds of barbecue chicken meals were served, as well as fare from food truck vendors offering all sorts of delightful dining treats.

The East Holmes Fire Department staff even helped to make some homemade ice cream.

Three live bands performed throughout the evening.

Ten teams representing fire departments in Wayne County, Holmes County and Tuscarawas County competed in the barrel fight for bragging rights.

The evening closed with a fireworks display.

The annual fireman's festival is a major fundraiser for the East Holmes Fire Department and EMS.

Chief John Schlabach said he was glad for a day of great weather that helped to bring in a great crowd.
