Last Graduating Class of Netcong H.S. Has Reunion
June 20, 1974 saw the end of an era. It was the day the last class graduated from Netcong High School. (After that, area high school students would graduate from Lenape Valley High.) The Netcong High class of 1974 had 94 members; 15 of those have passed away. In September, many of the remaining members of that graduating class will be gathering together for their 50th high school reunion. Recently, former classmates Amanda E. Rush of Netcong, Joe Benvenuto, of Byram, Earl Weaver of Succasunna, and Cindylu Pierce Fitzpatrick, of East Hanover gave a brief glimpse into the history of the school, reminisced a little about their time at Netcong High and shared some advice for recent high school graduates.

It’s been five decades since the CHS Class of 1974 walked the hallways of Cranford High. While much has changed over those 50 years some things remain the same. Center for Hope Auxiliary Fundraising continues
The Center for Hope Hospice and Palliative Care Auxiliary hosted its annual Wine Tasting Fundraiser recently. During the event Dolores Paruta, president of the Auxiliary, presented Frank Brady, president of the Center for Hope Hospice and Palliative Care with a check for $75,000. Our Auxiliary raises funds to support the Charity Care Program at the Center providing financing for patients who are unable to pay for the services of the Center. Last year alone the Auxiliary was able to donate well over $100,000. These funds are raised through events sponsored by the Auxiliary such as the Wine Tasting in the spring and our Baskets of Hope luncheon fundraiser in the fall. The Hope Chest thrift store, located on Prospect Street in Westfield, is manned fully by volunteers and is the auxiliary’s major fundraiser.

Former Fanwood Borough Councilman Douglas Clausen Remembered
Former Borough Councilman Douglas Clausen passed away in July at the age of 93. Mr. Clausen was a 50-year resident of Fanwood and spent between 25 and 30 years volunteering for the town. He was one of the original coaches of the Fanwood Youth Organization almost 50 years ago. He also served in United States Air Force.
