Youth with gun flees Ruston officers
A 17-year-old Ruston youth was arrested last week after a call to police reporting a man was brandishing a firearm in public. A Ruston officer spotted the suspect matching the description about 4:30 p.m. on July 10, but the man fled on foot. Officers gave chase and apprehended him on Apple Drive off South Farmerville Street. When asked about the handgun, Yanni J. Potts said he threw it down on the trail near the East Side Mini-Mart as he was running from officers.

McClintock joins Tech track and field staff
Louisiana Tech’s Director of Track & Field/Cross Country, Brian Johnson, announced the addition of Halle McClintock as an assistant coach. McClintock will oversee the distance runners after spending time as a graduate assistant at South Carolina. Before becoming a Gamecock, she spent five seasons as a distance runner at Georgia.

Registration Opens for 2024 Grambling State Women’s Soccer ID Camps
GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University women's soccer team announced its camp schedule for 2024. GSU will also host two ID camps this fall, the first one will take place on Friday, September 6 from 5 p.m.- 7:30 p.m. Girls ages 14-21 years old are invited to attend. Ringgold man learns prison sentence 33 years after conviction
HOMER, La. – A Ringgold man who had been on the run for more than three decades said he didn’t mean any harm when he shot a man back then. That admission had no sway Thursday afternoon on a Claiborne Parish Judge Rick Warren who sentenced Greg Lawson, 64, to 45 years in prison without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence. The maximum sentence was 50 years.
