The Department of Water Resources (DWR) is making progress on a project to improve a 1.5-mile section of the Brad Freeman Trail between Cherokee Road and the Highway 70 Garden Drive overpass. DWR crews are removing old asphalt and nearby vegetation and laying base rock along the trail in preparation for future paving work. Trail paving is expected to occur in September, with the work schedule subject to change based on material and crew availability.
Shastina Ranch Park now open in Redding; grand opening ceremony set for Aug. 24

Fentanyl, meth, fake cash seized at Chico apartment; 4 men arrested
BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. — Four men are behind bars for allegedly operating a drug sale operation out of an apartment in Chico, according to officials. Following up on an investigation, law enforcement officers served a search warrant at The Esplanade apartments in Chico on Thursday and found evidence indicating the sales of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and heroin, according to a release from the Butte Interagency Narcotics Task Force (BINTF) and the Special Enforcement Unit of the Butte County Sheriff's Office.
