WAYNE COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT HANDLES ONE VEHICLE ACCIDENT NORTHWEST OF WAYNE CITY WEDNESDAY NIGHT
Wayne City Fire and Ambulance personnel and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene of a one vehicle accident just after 10:30 Wednesday night on County Rd 360E at County Rd 900N northwest of Wayne City. Deputies say a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 18-year-old Elias Harlan of Keenes was traveling southbound on County Rd 360E when the vehicle failed to stop and skidded through the intersection with County Rd 900N and struck the ditch embankment on the south side of the intersection. Harlan and passengers in the vehicle; 18-year-old Isaiah Hickox, 17-year-old Leeland Malone and 17-year-old Mackenzie Whitfield all from Wayne City were not injured and refused treatment at the scene.

Marion County Board on split votes moves forward on window replacement projects
The Marion County Board has voted 8 to 5 to move forward with a $400,000 window replacement project at the courthouse. The acceptance of the bid from Gardner-L and M Glass of Taylorville is contingent on the board finalizing a loan at its next meeting to pay off the project over a ten to 15 year period.

The Board : approved the payment of all bills as presented : approved the Appropriation Ordinance for Fiscal Year 2025 retroactive to May 1st, 2024, with estimated Village revenues worth $1,563,065 and Village expenditures at $1,151,135 : agreed to replace the existing sign at the Village Park Pavilion with a new one from Meagher Signs in Flora, worth $105 : noted that the Village’s new storm siren will be erected on a new pole by the Village’s Water Tower, all pending a cost estimate from Ameren : discussed a cleanup of the flower bed at the corner of North Noble Avenue & East Illinois Route 250 : noted the next Village wide Cleanup is set for Wednesday, August 21st : noted the Noble Village wide Garage Sale set for Saturday, August 17th : and noted the upcoming Noble Chowder in the Village Park, on Saturday, August 10th with three streets to be closed during the Chowder – North Noble Avenue, between Elm & Poplar Streets, plus Wildcat Street and the 100 block of East Elm Street : the next regular meeting for the Noble Village Board will be August 12th.

MT. VERNON – Travis Chapman was sworn in Tuesday morning as Mt. Vernon’s Assistant Police Chief. According to Mt. Vernon Police Department Facebook post, Chapman is a 17-year veteran of the Mt. Vernon Police Department. Chapman is a U.S. Coast Guard rescue swimmer veteran, served as a police officer in Las Vegas for two years, has been a patrolman, field training officer, corporal, sergeant, and captain in the patrol division, internal affairs officer, firearms instructor, officer of the year, previous team leader on ILEAS WMD Special Response Team, and is the Team Commander for the Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office High Risk Team.
