    Delta Sigma Theta presents Jabberwock 2024

    Members of the Ahoskie Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. recently presented Jabberwock 2024 at the Bertie High School Auditorium in Windsor.

    This year’s theme was “An Exhibition of Pearls: Empowered for the Purpose of Inspiring and Fostering Change.” Jakhoury Leary provided music for the evening event and Ellis’ Angels were the opening program act.

    Valarie Patrick welcomed all of the attendees and Jean Cherry presented the occasion for Jabberwock 2024. Beshyla Smith and Norman Cherry hosted the evening.

    Assata Kimbrough Buffaloe introduced members of the Ahoskie Alumnae Chapter and recognized visiting Deltas.

    Jabberwock contestants for 2024 were Travante Askew, who will be a senior at Bertie Early College. He was sponsored by Marlina Perry, Genia Canada, Jean Canada, LaQuanda Leary, Ebony Rankins, Josie Taylor and Kim White.

    Askew is the son of the late Travis Askew and the stepson of Toni Sierra Askew.

    Samayah Bellamy will be a senior at Bertie Early College. She was sponsored by Janine Moore, Tondra Ballance, Danielle Briscoe, Reba Carlton, Threann Herbert, Bobbi Holley, Greta A. Lassiter, Patricia Myrick, Janice Ricks and Shelia Simpson.

    She is the daughter of Quincy Bellamy and Toni Sierra Askew and the stepdaughter of the late Travis Askew.

    Aiyanna Grace Hutchinson will be a senior at Hertford County High School. She was sponsored by Cheryl Gatling-Tyler, Pam Hall, Helen Lassiter, Loretta Lassiter, Sandra Lassiter, Loretta McCullough and Rhonda Taylor.

    Hutchinson is the daughter of Latonia Simmons.

    Teairra Marie Moore is a 2024 graduate of Bertie Early College. She was sponsored by Jaime Heckstall, Linda Peele, Ava Boone, April Eason, Whitney Hall, Amaya Heckstall, Thomasha Harrell, JacQuesha Harrison, Camille Rascoe, Janice Sharpe, Martha Thompson, Kenyatta Ward and Kristen Watford.

    Moore is the daughter of Barry and Debra Moore.

    Keviona Taylor plans on attending Fayetteville State University this fall. She was sponsored by Floria Smith, Terrell Deloatch, Mary Ruffin-Harrell, Jasmine Ryan, Danielle Poyer-Ruffin, Sha-Tesia Sharpe, Beshelya Smith and Tiffany Walton.

    Taylor is the daughter of Randall Jr. and Takeyla Hall Taylor.

    Miss Jabberwock 2024 Alexis “Lisa” Vann will be a senior at Hertford County Early College in the fall and is enrolled at Roanoke Chowan Community College. She was sponsored by Wendy Vann, Frances Bazemore, Stephanie Cherry, Sherry Davis-Ransome, Hope Eley, Rosalind Grant, Vernetta Henderson, Annie Mobley, Deborah Morrison, Deboria Outlaw, Constance Richardson, Jamila K. Riddick, Austin Vaughan, Gail Vaughan, Viola Vaughan-Holland, Jackie White-Porter and Felicia Mosley Williams.

    Vann is the daughter of Elrod and Wendy Vann.

    The Jabberwock contestants provided entertainment throughout the evening as their parents were introduced to the audience.

    Aren Kimbrough Buffaloe, Mr. Jabberwock 2020, presented his farewell message and the contestants were presented with gifts and awards for their participation. Greta Lassiter presented Scrapbook awards and Jaime Heckstall recognized academic awards.

    The highlight of the evening was the presentation by Terrell Deloatch of Alexis “Lisa” Vann, Miss Jabberwock 2024 and her court.

    Leary presented a musical salute to Miss Jabberwock 2024 and her court. The program ended with President of the Ahoskie Alumnae Chapter Linda Peele giving closing remarks and thanks to all who attended.
