IN FOCUS: 8.30.24 A Weekly Update from City Manager Ryan Waller
Earlier this week, the caboose, previously situated in City Square Park, returned to Marion. It was reintroduced to the City’s park system along the Grant Wood Trail, just south of the American Legion. Due to severe corrosion, over 40 percent of the caboose’s exterior was reconstructed. It was repainted Milwaukee Road orange and fitted with new decals. The refurbished caboose will be the focal point of a new pocket park, Draper Park, that celebrates Marion’s railroad history. The Grant Wood Trail follows the former railroad right-of-way and connects several Marion parks. The project is intended to educate residents on Marion’s railroad history, create a designation along the trail and enhance the existing City property. Visit www.cityofmarion.org to learn more.
