Berwick, Pa. — The 3rd Annual Summer Recovery Picnic, held at Briar Creek Lake in Berwick, was a resounding success, bringing together 25 local organizations and six inspirational speakers who shared their personal stories of recovery.

This event, fully funded by the Community Giving Foundation, aimed to uplift and support individuals in recovery while celebrating the dedication of service providers and community members who make recovery possible.

Andrea Bloskey, Recovery Engagement Project Coordinator and Certified Recovery Specialist with United in Recovery, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating, "It was so amazing to see all the organizations that registered this year. A lot of people don't know the abundance of help and support that is available right here in our community. And it's always inspiring hearing the speakers bravely share their stories, and we had some really great speakers this year!"

The picnic featured free food, live music, and the opportunity for attendees to connect with various community organizations. Notable attendees included Central Susquehanna Opportunities, Inc., Community Care Behavioral Health Organization, Geisinger Health Plan Behavioral Health, Genesis House, Jeremy's Journey, PA Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, Gaudenzia, Inc., Recovery Community Services Program and Bloomsburg Recovery Hub, AmeriHealth Caritas PA, Watsontown Comprehensive Treatment Center, Columbia County Family Center, New Roots Recovery Support Center, Oasis Community Recovery Club, and many more.

Raffle baskets and gift cards generously donated by local businesses and organizations added an element of excitement to the event, encouraging community participation and support.

The picnic underscored the importance of community solidarity in supporting individuals and families affected by substance use disorder. "Coming together to celebrate recovery is an amazing way to unify the community," said Bloskey.

This event was free and open to the public, embodying the spirit of inclusivity and support that is vital to the recovery journey. The Community Giving Foundation's sponsorship played a crucial role in making this event possible, highlighting their commitment to fostering a supportive and connected community.
