BERWICK, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Making sure no child goes hungry was the goal Monday in Columbia County.

More than 150 families received a free, healthy, and nutritional lunch on Monday in Berwick.

Dozens of volunteers from the Youth Action Center and For the Cause Teen Center teamed up with local food banks to give away bags of fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as cereal, eggs, and meat.

The organizations hold their summer food distribution program each Monday during the summer months at West Berwick Elementary School.

Households with Berwick area students as well as other Berwick community members are eligible to receive food from this program.

“They seem really grateful, they’re just so happy that they can get the food that we give them,” said Berwick Youth Action Board President Ava Peters.

The program’s last day for the food drive is Monday, August 12.

This event was made possible by a grant from the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank in Lycoming County.
