Ride to End Cancer Cruises Through Somers
SOMERS, N.Y. - Anyone driving past Somers Middle School and Somers Intermediate School on Sunday, July 21, would believe Somers had been invaded. The field separating the schools was transformed into a mass of tents and a sea of cycles. Over 375 cyclists on the Empire State Ride to End Cancer concluded the first day of a seven-day, 500+ mile adventure from New York City to Niagara Falls that raises funds for cancer research. The riders, many of whom were cancer survivors and supported by an army of volunteers, began the day in Staten Island, ferried to Manhattan and wound their way to Somers. Driver inexperience leads to Mahopac crash
MAHOPAC- A 16 year old Mahopac youth who recently received his driver’s license caused a two vehicle crash last week that sent a Poughkeepsie resident to Danbury Hospital. Carmel Police and members of the Mahopac Fire Department were sent to Route 6 at Croton Falls Road Tuesday afternoon after calls were received by the Putnam 9-1-1 Center reporting a serious crash.
Special meeting held in Bethany Tuesday night as angry parents demand answers
BETHANY, Connecticut — To say parents are angry is an understatement, as a special meeting held in Bethany left them with more questions than answers. Dozens of town residents filled the Bethany Town Hall gym Tuesday night, demanding answers from town leaders for nearly three hours. Several residents directed much of their anger at First Selectwoman Paula Cofrancesco.
North Castle Landmarks Century-Old Barber Pole in Downtown Armonk
The North Castle Town Board voted to landmark a 100-year-old barber pole that stands outside a hair salon in downtown Armonk. Following a recommendation from the Landmarks Preservation Committee, the Town Board approved the designation for the pole in front of Manny’s Unisex Haircutting at 416 Main St. The request for landmark status came from the owners of the building, said Linda Fernberg, a Landmarks Preservation Committee member who addressed the board at its last meeting.
