A recent report reveals that the parents of Thomas Matthew Crooks, the individual who attempted to assassinate Donald Trump, had contacted the police to report him missing before the shooting incident.

Additionally, it has been disclosed that the 20-year-old gunman had attended the former president’s rally three hours prior to the shooting and had raised suspicions among the Secret Service due to carrying a rangefinder typically used by hunters for long-range shots. According to Fox News, Crooks’ parents contacted authorities in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, expressing their worries about their son’s location.

According to CNN, Crooks’ father informed law enforcement that he believed his son had gone to The Clairton Sportsmen’s Club shooting range to practice with his rifle and was expected to return by 1pm on Saturday. However, as time passed, his father became increasingly worried and contacted local authorities.

Around 3pm on Saturday, Crooks was seen at the rally’s security screening area attempting to pass through metal detectors with the rangefinder, a tool used by shooters to measure distance. While the rangefinder would not have prevented him from entering the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, it did attract the attention of law enforcement.

The Secret Service monitored his movements but lost sight of Crooks when he exited the secure area. It is believed that he retrieved the rifle used in the attack on Donald Trump, as well as a bulletproof vest and two explosive devices, from his car. Approximately 40 minutes before the shooting took place, Crooks once again came to the attention of the Secret Service.

Law enforcement received a photograph at 5:30pm showing the sniper, who appeared to be crawling on the ground while surveying the area, which was considered a suspicious sighting. At approximately 6:11pm, Crooks positioned himself on a slanted roof and fired at Donald Trump from a distance of about 165 yards, injuring him in the ear and fatally shooting retired fire chief Corey Comperatore.
