    Pep rally in Bethesda celebrates 3 Montgomery County natives heading to Olympics for swimming

    BETHESDA, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Many gathered at a pep rally in Bethesda to cheer on three swimmers from Montgomery County who are going to compete in the Olympics.

    Representing 15% of the U.S. Olympic Women’s Swimming Team, Katie Ledecky, Phoebe Bacon and Erin Gemmell all attended Stone Ridge School and will be heading to Paris.

    Stone Ridge Athletic Director, Andrew Maguire, taught two of the swimmers and said seeing the trio on the global stage is no surprise.

    “Sometimes colleges have multiple swimmers on the Olympic team but for a high school all in the same team, all in the same sport, it’s incredible and we feel proud,” he said. “It’s the pinnacle of their sport.”
