IronPigs helping Hotel Bethlehem win USA TODAY Best Historic Hotel contest

The Historic Hotel Bethlehem has once again been nominated for USA TODAY’s 10 Best Historic Hotels contest.

The hotel won the top honor as best historic hotel three years in a row, which inspired a hockey-themed comment from Managing Partner Bruce Haines.

“It’s a hat trick!” said Haines, in announcing last year's win. “And just like in hockey, the playmaker is just as important as the player who put the puck in the net. In this case, the entire Lehigh Valley community gets credit for three assists. We couldn’t have done it without each and every guest, team member, and community supporter who took the time to vote.”

Now that it’s going for number four a home run if you will the hotel has enlisted the help of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs to drum up support for voting, which began Monday.

IronPigs mascots were on hand for a get-out-the vote event at the hotel, and Haines called on hotel and baseball fans to get in the sporting spirit.

“Let’s play ball and make this happen by voting every day throughout the contest,” said Haines. “Each day think about taking a step up to bat in honor of a great memory you, your family and friends have made at the hotel - from special dinners to proms and weddings, everyone in the valley has some kind of connection to Historic Hotel Bethlehem.”

As part of the cross promotion Historic Hotel Bethlehem Community Ambassador Ryan Crookham will join Haines on the field to throw out the first pitch at the IronPigs game Monday night.

IronPigs President and General Manager Kurt Landes said the team was happy to help support the hotel in the voting.

“It’s kind of like the 7th game of the World Series. Our beloved local landmark is up against some of the best hotels in America,” he said. “The bases are loaded, and we need everyone to come together to bring home the bacon to the Lehigh Valley & Bethlehem.”

In addition to the ceremony, the IronPigs announced a “bases loaded” partnership. Throughout the voting campaign, whenever the IronPigs load the bases, they’ll display a QR code on the big board with a link that takes fans to the voting website. They’ll also announce voting details during defensive lineups.

Fans of the IronPigs and Hotel Bethlehem can cast their vote at votehotelb.com. Votes can be cast daily through Aug. 5.
