A Northampton County man died Wednesday night after his car hit a tree during a storm in Bethlehem.

City police said in a news release that a vehicle going east on Pembroke Road hit a tree about 8 p.m. near the intersection with East Washington Avenue. Witnesses told authorities that the driver appeared to lose control before the vehicle went off the road.

The driver, Johny Roustic, 51, of East Allen Township, was taken to St Luke’s University Hospital, where he died from his injuries about 9 p.m., according to Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio. A passenger in the vehicle, a 29-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with suspected minor injuries, according to police.

A storm was making its way through the area at the time of the crash. Police said wet road conditions may have contributed to the crash.

Buglio said Roustic’s death was caused by multiple blunt force trauma.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact police at 610-865-7000.
