What was that smell in Bethlehem? DEP determines source of recent odor

The state Department of Environmental Protection office determined a spray drying facility in Bethlehem was responsible for a recent foul odor in the city.

Colleen Connolly, a DEP spokesperson, said the department received about seven complaints of an odor coming from the Spray-Tek facility off Industrial Drive over the past few weeks. Over the weekend, the smell prompted multiple posts on social media from residents trying to determine where it was coming from.

A DEP specialist went to the area Monday and found that Spray-Tek was the source of the stench, according to the DEP. The DEP is working with Spray-Tek to resolve the issue, Connolly said.

No violations wereissued as of Wednesday, she said.

Spray-Tek did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday afternoon.
