Customers of Iowa American Water have opportunities to give their opinions on a proposed rate hike at three meetings this month.
Iowa American Water filed an application, or petition, with the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) on May 1, seeking an increase in its water utility rates effective April 1, 2025. The utility is asking for:
- An increase in annual water revenue of $21,106,223, or approximately 46.7% above their existing water revenue requirement.
- 38.68% increase for typical residential water bills
- 30.73% increase for typical commercial water bills
- 35.93% increase for typical industrial water bills
The company also requested an interim rate increase to be effective on May 11, 2024. They’re requesting these temporary rate increases:
- 11.40% increase for typical residential water bills
- 14.02% increase for typical commercial water bills
- 16.83% increase for typical industrial water bills
Following a public hearing and review of all the evidence, testimony, and other filings in the docket,
The IUB can approve or deny the request or approve the request with modifications after a public hearing and a review of all the evidence, testimony and other filings in the docket.
The IUB has three opportunities for customers to attend public meetings to provide comments about the proposed rate increase. There will be one virtual meeting and two in-person meetings for customer comments.
