It works equally well as an accent color or a neutral.

Benjamin Moore’s pick for the 2025 Color of the Year totally surprised us—but in the best way. The paint brand just announced Cinnamon Slate as its top hue of the year: a rich, creamy mix of plum purple and chocolate brown that’s gorgeous as a bold accent color and a neutral.

“The color story really unfolds differently every year; this year we really started from a more emotional level,” Sharon Grech, color and design spokesperson for Benjamin Moore, said in a video press release. “We talked a lot about this need for balance and reassurance, and we felt strongly that that can be captured in the home with restorative color.”

Brown hues are among the hottest shades in home design right now, but they can easily lean toward the boring beige end of the decorating spectrum. Benjamin Moore’s addition of plum tones takes Cinnamon Slate to the next level while staying on trend.

“Looking at our previous colors of the year— Blue Nova and Raspberry Blush before that—Cinnamon Slate still has a similar confidence than they did, but this one is a lot more understated,” Grech says. ”It’s got a lot more nuance to it. There’s something about those in-between colors that we felt we were ready for, those colors that you can’t exactly define.”

Andrea Magno, Benjamin Moore’s director of color marketing and design, recommends using the Color of the Year as the base shade in a living room and accenting it with neutrals in various materials.

“I particularly love the balance between Cinnamon Slate and lots of neutrals, and lots of different textures and materials,” she says. “Complexity doesn’t have to be a scary thing, it’s what makes these colors special.”

While paint color brands are known for choosing one color each year, Benjamin Moore is pairing Cinnamon Slate with a full roster of top paint color picks. Their Color Trends 2025 collection includes 10 shades that are what the brand calls, “quietly colorful.”

Here's a full list of the colors featured in the palette (in addition to Cinnamon Slate):

    • Sea Salt CSP-95
    • Leather Saddle Brown 2100-20
    • Chowning’s Tan CW-195
    • Tissue Pink 1163
    • Stained Glass CSP-685
    • Ashwood Moss 1484
    • Rosepine 461
    • Paris Rain 1501
    • Glacier White OC-37

“The overall Color Trends Palette is 10 really quietly colorful hues," Grech says. “They’re very harmonious and work really well together, yet each one has a lot of character and strength on its own.”
