BETTERTON — It was a fun-filled time at the C. Henry Price Betterton American Legion post on Saturday as they joined other Legion posts nationwide for American Legion Family Day.

The last Saturday of April, all posts are encouraged to open their doors to members of the community to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of Legionnaires, Sons of the American Legion members, Legion Riders and American Legion Auxiliary, to bring awareness to the organization’s “Be the One” initiative to reduce the rate of veteran suicide.

Service Officer for the Auxiliary Helen Martin said it’s a great way to bring the community together.

Families had some fun things to do, between face-painting, the moon bounce house, playing cornhole and petting goats, donkeys and cows.

There were recruiting stations as well, from the American Legion and from Betterton/Still Pond Lions, and some military and fire department equipment on display where kids could get to experience what it’s like to sit behind the wheel of a fire truck.

Betterton Heritage Museum was in attendance promoting the history of the town.

President of the Auxiliary Patti Bone was pleased with the turnout and anticipates many more events to come.
