Rosa Louise McCauley Parks was born on February 4, 1913 and became an activist for the NAACP in 1943. Twelve years later, in 1955, Rosa was taking a bus in Montgomery, Alabama when the bus driver found his way back to where she was sitting, took down the ‘colored section’ sign, and told her to vacate her seat to a white person who was without a seat. All that did was make her more determined to stay where she was.

In July of 2022, lawmakers in Illinois decided to implement a new law that would reduce the number of residents who were spending time behind bars in the county jails. As the state of Illinois was facing issues with being understaffed in their jails and holding offenders for too long, they decided that something had to be done in the justice system. Illinois lawmakers would gather and deliberate on what many have dubbed the Purge law to help fix their county jail issues.
Beware! Rabid Bats May be Flying in Kent County
The Michigan.gov/emerging diseases website just announced that 14 cases of rabies in bats have been detected in Michigan and one in Kent County. WEST MICHIGAN — The Storm Prediction Center updated the storm outlook for this week, putting West Michigan in the threat region on Thursday. The area from Holland, to Grand Rapids, to Ionia north and west falls under a MARGINAL RISK or level 1 out of 5 (in green) for severe thunderstorms. Locations south and east of these cities are in a SLIGHT RISK or level 2 out of 5 (in yellow) for severe storms.
