According to a Thursday morning update from Rocky Mountain Area Complex Incident Management Team 3, which assumed control of firefighting operations June 26, the lightning-caused fire has only grown 1 acre since Tuesday and has now burned 1,191 acres. “As a reminder, we do expect it to begin to dry out today, so smoke and some fire activity will likely be more visible,” fire officials stated Thursday on Facebook. <iframe height="429" src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?height=314&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Foakridgefire2024%2Fvideos%2F1526642511267997%2F&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=560&amp;t=0" width="100%"></iframe><nbtemplate data-id="AdPlaceholder" data-content="JTdCJTdE"></nbtemplate> No injuries have been reported as a result of the fire and no properties have been reported damaged or destroyed. More than 800 personnel are now responding to the blaze, which began June 22 and prompted evacuations that <a href="https://www.chieftain.com/story/news/disaster/2024/07/02/oak-ridge-fire-evacuations-lifted-tuesday-fire-remains-5-contained/74279644007/" rel="nofollow"> have since been lifted. </a> Some areas of Pueblo County — including Middle Creek Canyon Road, Vine Mesa, Cascade Avenue, Pine Avenue and Beulah Highlands Road — remain under pre-evacuation status. “The incident management team is constantly evaluating plans on the fire, weighing risks to responders and probability of success,” Rocky Mountain Area Complex Incident Management Team 3 officials said in Thursday’s update. “Aerial resources are supporting crews to locate areas of heat on the fire and evaluating suppression options. Today’s weather is forecast to be the driest and hottest of the past week. Fire managers will evaluate strategic firefighting tactics and plan the next phase in safely fighting this fire.” <nbtemplate data-id="AdPlaceholder" data-content="JTdCJTdE"></nbtemplate> Fire officials said Tuesday they were planning an aerial ignition “to start bringing this fire down to our lines where we can fight it safely.” Aerial ignition entails&nbsp;firefighters igniting fuels by dropping incendiary devices or materials from aircraft. “We’re expecting an increase in acreage, we’re anticipating between 6,500 and 7,000 acres by when it’s done," Matt Holte, operations section chief trainee for the Oak Ridge Fire, said in Tuesday's fire briefing. According to the U.S. Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program’s Wildfire Smoke Outlook report, there has recently been light fire activity due to previous moisture, and the Beulah area was expected to see “Good” air quality on Thursday. “The weather forecast for Beulah shows temperatures decreasing with winds out of the (east/southeast) today with possible gusty winds in the area in the afternoon” the report stated. <nbtemplate data-id="AdPlaceholder" data-content="JTdCJTdE"></nbtemplate> The Cañon City, Florence, Westcliffe, Wetmore, Pueblo, and Colorado City areas were also expected to see “Good” air quality on Thursday.
