BIG FLATS, N.Y. ( WETM ) — A Chemung County-based nonprofit rescued 26 Shih Tzus from a home in Big Flats on Friday afternoon.

Southern Tier Animal Control seized 16 young adult dogs and 10 seven-week-old puppies during an emergency rescue on July 26, according to a Facebook post made by the nonprofit.

The Shih Tzus all need medical care and need to be groomed before they can be adopted out to loving homes. Anyone who would like to help support the recovery of these little pups can directly support their veterinary care by reaching out to Home Veterinary Care and asking to add a donation to Southern Tier Animal Control’s veterinary account or by going to one of the links the nonprofit’s website or Facebook page .

Anyone interested in adopting one of the dogs after they’ve recovered should fill out an application on Southern Tier Animal Control’s website instead of messaging or calling the organization. Southern Tier Animal Control’s website is currently under construction, but all of the links on the page still work.

Southern Tier Animal Control is a nonprofit that provides animal control to municipalities that contract its services (like Big Flats) and enforces animal cruelty laws in those municipalities. The organization also helps lost pets find their way home.
