Another round of rain for Southeast before a break
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Southeast will see another round of moderate to sometimes heavy rain for Wednesday. Juneau is expected to see another inch of rain and Sitka could see more than 1.5 inches coming down. Petersburg is also expected to see heavy rain with a possible total of more than 2 inches. Most of that rain will fall before evening. Thursday will be a pause between systems but more rain is expected on Friday.

Partial Closure Of Skilak Lake Campground Due To Construction In July & August
Due to construction projects, the Skilak Lake Campground will be partially closed in July and August. The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge will be making improvements to the Lower Skilak Campground. These will result in the closure of certain areas from 11:59 pm on July 21 until 12:00 pm on August 22.
Recycling firm will pick up fishing nets this summer
For harvesters in Cordova interested in recycling those huge, old commercial fishing nets, there are still two opportunities to do so before the season winds down. Nicole Baker, of Net Your Problem, came to Cordova’s Sandy Point and spoke with harvesters about the two final recycling periods: Aug. 2-3 and Sept. 27-28. Net Your Problem has already conducted four prior recycling sessions, the first in May.
Soldotna FY25 Capital Budget Focuses On Maintenance And Park Improvements
The Soldotna City Council approved the City’s fiscal year 2025 capital budget last week, including $575,000 in appropriations for capital projects. The projects target preventative maintenance for city streets and the Soldotna Police Department Building, improvements to the stage at Soldotna Creek Park, and the first phase of improvements at Memorial Park.
Filing period opens today for Sitka’s municipal election
The filing period for Sitka’s municipal election opens today (7-15-24). Several seats are opening up on the Sitka Assembly this fall. Mayor Steven Eisenbeisz’s two-year term is up, and assembly members Scott Saline and Kevin Mosher are finishing their terms, leaving two three-year seats up for grabs.
