A freight train derailed overnight near Big Lake, Minnesota, with authorities saying 15 rail cars were involved.

The Sherburne County Sheriff's Office says the derailment involving a BNSF train was reported at 3:15 a.m., with 172nd Street Northwest blocked between 197th Avenue and County Road 14 as a result.

The incident has had an impact on BNSF's main lines, and has also forced the cancellation of this afternoon's Northstar rail service between Big Lake and Minneapolis, which was running to get fans to this evening's Minnesota Twins game.

Metro Transit says an update will be provided Sunday morning regarding Sunday's Twins service.

Cars that derailed were carrying "consumer goods," per police, and there is no wider threat to the public. Nobody was injured in the derailment.

"Crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to clear the area, including reopening affected roadway crossings," the sheriff's office said.
