ABILENE, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) — Wylie High School is offering new courses to help prepare students for the workforce after graduation.

A Fundamentals of Real Estate course will be available to Wylie students for the upcoming 2024-25 school year, alongside classes specializing in construction, landscaping, and plumbing.

The real estate class is meant to give students a taste of potential real estate. Wylie High School’s principal, Reagan Berry, said it is an excellent addition for the students.

“We want to provide opportunities for our students after they graduate high school to jump right into their career or even support them while they’re in college. Real estate: there’s a piece of the pie for everyone. And so, it’s a growing industry. There’s always room for new realtors, and we just saw it as a demand,” Berry said.

The class will be taught by Krystal Martin, a CTE teacher at the school who has first-hand experience with the course workload.

“I’ve actually completed the whole course. I’ve got to finish my testing for real estate, but that’s something I’ve been interested in and something that I thought would be great to bring into our schools, to give our students more opportunities,” Martin said.

The class has about 30 students enrolled and ready to learn more about the profession. One of the students, Ella Schubert, said the class will allow her to explore more avenues for her future.

“I’m taking some business classes, like entrepreneurship and some graphic design classes. So, I think my interest has always been in the social side of all that. So, I think it’s been that has really opened my eyes to see that real estate is a great opportunity to be involved with people,” Schubert said.

The class offers students the opportunity to take their license test after turning 18.
