ABILENE, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) – Changes are in the works for the old Borden building in South Abilene because of its historic significance.

We learned last year that it would become an age restricted apartment complex. The original plan outlined that it would use the main building, then construct a single-story structure behind the main building, and get rid of two outbuildings.

When that plan went before the Texas Historic Commission, the commission required the two outbuildings to stay put because they were found to be historic in nature.

On Thursday, developers submitted new plans to Abilene City Council, making modifications for those requirements.

Per those stipulations, the outbuilding on the northeast corner of the property will be used as dwellings, and the other outbuilding will be used as a maintenance shed.

The plan is still to turn the main building into age restricted apartments, catering to Abilene’s elderly residents.
