    Abilene Public Library launches summer reading challenge for all ages

    ABILENE, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) — The Abilene Public Library invites the community to participate in the 2024 Summer Reading Challenge , featuring activities for children, teenagers, and adults.

    This year, the library is featuring books from author and illustrator LeUyen Pham, who is the honoree at the Children’s Art and Literacy Festival. Throughout the summer, the library will host events showcasing her work, including live productions of “ The Itchy Book ,” which Pham illustrated, and a summer art installation inspired by her book “ The Together Tree .”

    Starting on June 1, kids, teens, and adults can participate in reading and activity challenges. These challenges include reading, attending programs, using digital services, accessing databases, suggesting library programming, and more. Each challenge is worth 5 points, and if you accumulate 100 points by July 31, you will have the chance to win prizes funded by the Friends of the Library.

    Countdown to The 2024 Children’s Art and Literacy Festival

    The three library locations will host various activities, including visits from the Abilene Zoo, live theater performances, STEAM events, therapy dog reading sessions, movies, art, and more.

    Teens can participate in art projects, trivia nights, murder mystery gaming, and craft activities. Adults can participate in a variety of activities, including lawn and gardening workshops with the Texas Master Gardeners, a knitting and crochet club, a summer series with the Noah Project to learn about social issues, book club meetings, and cake decorating classes.
