ABILENE, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) — An officer-involved shooting occurred in a west Abilene neighborhood Thursday evening.

At about 6:30 p.m., crews responded to the 3800 block of North 9th Street.

The caller stated that their 39-year-old son, Cris Steenblock, was destroying property and getting physical with his parents.

As officers approached, Steenblock walked towards them with weapons in both hands in the street. He did not comply with the officers’ directions to drop the weapons and continued forward. The officer then fired his gun, striking Steenblock.

Steenblock was pronounced deceased by the Justice of the Peace.

No officers or others were injured. Per departmental policy, the officer will be placed on administrative leave as the Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers investigates.
