JONES COUNTY, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) – A grass fire has erupted near Anson North Lake.

The Anson, Hamlin, and Stamford Fire Departments, along with the Texas A&M Forest Service, are currently fighting a grass fire to the west of Anson North Lake in the vicinity of County Roads 162 and 185.

According to first responders, the fire started around noon due to a person welding a fence post. Fire crews recommend having water nearby if you decide to weld to prevent sparks from starting a fire.

According to the forest service , the ‘North Lake’ fire has spread to 75 acres and is currently 95% contained. It is currently unknown if any structures are threatened.

A few hours after the start of the North Lake fire, another fire erupted in Shackleford County near FM 1084 west of Albany. The ‘Event’ fire has spread across 145 acres and is 90% contained.

Before either of these fires started, Train Car was active in Coleman County. It is now contained at 400 acres.
