ABILENE, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) – An Abilene ISD music instructor is accused of having an improper relationship with a student.

Lawrence Grigg, 54, was taken into custody Wednesday on a warrant for Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student in connection to an investigation that began in July.

A press release states police began investigating Grigg after receiving notification from Abilene ISD that he may possibly be engaged in an improper relationship with a student.

Documents: Abilene music teacher allegedly met student at Redbud park, local hotels for sex

During the investigation, detectives found electronic evidence and other information that led to his arrest, according to the press release.

“The district immediately placed Grigg on administrative leave to assist with the investigation and ensure the safety of students,” the press release states.

Detectives believe that because Grigg is involved with children as a music instructor at Cooper High School, there could be additional victims.

Anyone with information on Grigg is asked to contact the Abilene Police Department at (325)673-8331.

Griggs now remains held in the Taylor County Jail on a $1 million bond.

Abilene ISD released the following statement regarding Grigg’s arrest:

Abilene ISD is aware of the arrest of Fred Grigg on Wednesday, August 21. On Tuesday, July 30, Abilene ISD received a report of an alleged improper relationship involving Fred Grigg and a former student. The district immediately notified the Abilene Police Department, Child Protective Services, and the State Board for Educator Certification after receiving this report and placed Mr. Grigg on administrative leave to ensure that he had no access to our students or facilities. The AISD Board of Trustees has now accepted our superintendent’s recommendation for the proposed termination of Mr. Grigg, and AISD will continue to cooperate with law enforcement in their ongoing investigation.

We are thankful for the diligent efforts of our staff and the collaborative work of the Abilene Police Department to keep our students safe and pursue justice in this matter. We take every allegation of employee misconduct extremely seriously, and we have zero tolerance for any behavior that could harm any of our students. Our teachers and staff are expected to follow the highest standards of conduct to protect the best interests of our children and provide a safe place for every AISD student to learn.

I don’t believe it. How does this even happen ? All teachers should wear body cams to protect themselves from being accused of indecent accusations. Once someone is accused they’re always LABELED.for life. Surveillance and body cams to protect further accusations is what Abilene ISD needs to invest in.
