ABILENE, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) – Abilene recorded its hottest day ever at a sweltering 113°F Wednesday, August 21.

The previous hottest temperature on record was set in August 2023 at 111°F.

113°F is now the hottest temperature recorded in Abilene in 139 years, since the National Weather Service began keeping records in 1885.

Tuesday was record-breaking as well, marking the hottest August 20 ever recorded in Abilene at 109°, breaking a record that was also set in 2023.

Records are expected to be broken once again Thursday. The National Weather Service says temperatures are expected to reach upwards of 112°F.

The National Weather Service says this means there is an increased risk for heat-related illnesses, so drink plenty of water, consider cancelling outdoor activities, wear light clothing, and stay inside in air conditioning if possible.
