BIG COUNTRY, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) — The dangerous heat and lack of rain in the Big Country have worsened this week’s drought monitor.

Last week, most counties were under a Dry (1/5) Risk. This week, all of our counties are now experiencing at least a Moderate (2/5) Risk. This is due to the fact that the Big Country has been experiencing record-breaking heat. In addition, the Big Country has also had countless days without little to no rainfall. Notice that a Severe (3/5) Risk has also formed just outside of King County. Thankfully, none of our counties are under that large of a risk right now.

With the dry conditions comes the continued risk of fires. The Texas A&M Forest Service now shows regions within the Big Country under the largest fire risk, Extreme. For more updates regarding fire risks, visit here.

While the heat and dry conditions have been nearly unbearable, our temperatures are slowly improving. Within the next seven days, expect those temperatures to drop to the mid-90s. In addition, we have a few days with rain chances, in the hope that they will help improve our drought situation. Stay safe. Stay healthy. Let’s wish for more rain in the upcoming weeks!
